What’s included? Weekly vs. bi-weekly care
As someone who cares about the appearance of their North Texas property, you want to make sure you’re keeping up with the best landscape maintenance schedule. But do you really need weekly maintenance? Is bi-weekly care enough to get the job done without overpaying?
After all, as much as you love your lawn and landscape, you also don’t want to pay for services you don’t need.
Honestly, the time of the year is one of the biggest dictators of landscape maintenance frequency.
In this article, we’ll dive into everything you ought to know about weekly vs. bi-weekly landscape maintenance so that you can make the right choices for your property.

Addressing the misconception: Bi-weekly services aren’t just “half” the work
Landscape maintenance is most easily defined as any service that helps keep your landscape looking its best. We know that our clients are looking to have the “best yard on the block.” Our landscape maintenance services help achieve that.
At Grassperson these services include things like:
Services like mowing, blowing, and trimming are core services while things like irrigation and installations are upgrades.
As we mentioned, season is typically a wise indicator of the best landscape maintenance schedule. The needs of the lawn and landscape will vary dramatically with the season and that can change the frequency of what’s needed.
Weekly maintenance might make sense if…
Choosing weekly landscape maintenance in North Texas might be the best choice if the lawn is actively growing, irrigated and fertilized; the property owner wants a consistently neat appearance; or the property needs frequent mowing, edging, trimming, weed attention and debris removal.
In North Texas, weekly service is generally the best choice during the spring and summer growing season because it allows us to maintain the proper mowing height without removing too much of the grass blade at once.
Bi-weekly maintenance might make sense if…
Choosing bi-weekly landscape maintenance in North Texas might make sense if grass and landscape growth have slowed, the lawn is dormant or receiving limited irrigation, or the homeowner is comfortable with a less consistently manicured appearance.
Bi-weekly service is recommended during cooler months or for lower-maintenance properties, but it is usually not ideal for a healthy, irrigated North Texas lawn during peak growing season.
Understanding what’s included in weekly or bi-weekly landscape maintenance is helpful in making your decision.
Weekly schedule
A weekly schedule means the property is serviced every seven days during the active growing season. At each visit, the crew will:
Depending on the maintenance agreement, the crew may also address weeds and other routine landscape needs. This schedule keeps the property looking consistently maintained and prevents the grass from becoming excessively tall between visits.
Bi-weekly schedule
A bi-weekly schedule generally means the same core services are performed every 14 days. Because the grass, weeds and landscape continue growing between visits, the crew may encounter taller turf, heavier edging and more accumulated clippings or debris. The property may look freshly maintained immediately after service, but it will not retain the same consistent appearance throughout the two-week interval.
Schedules should remain responsive to the season. A lawn may need weekly mowing during periods of rapid spring and summer growth but require fewer visits when growth slows or the turf becomes dormant. Weather can also affect the exact service day and the work that should be performed.
There are certainly some services that are better-suited to being performed weekly. During the active growing season, the services that require weekly attention include:
Other services—such as shrub pruning, fertilization, mulch installation, irrigation inspections, and seasonal flower work are usually performed periodically or as needed rather than every week. The goal is to match each service to the growth rate and needs of the lawn and landscape.
One misconception that we’ve heard is that bi-weekly landscape maintenance in North Texas is just half the work of what weekly landscape maintenance would be.
Bi-weekly maintenance does not mean the crew performs only half the work during each visit. The core services such as mowing, edging, string trimming and blowing are completed each visit. Bi-weekly visits often require more effort because the grass is taller, edging is heavier and more clippings and debris may have accumulated.
However, bi-weekly service does mean the property receives half as many visits. Therefore, it should not be expected to produce the same consistently maintained appearance as weekly service. During the additional week between visits, grass and weeds continue growing, edges become less defined and debris can accumulate.
This is why bi-weekly service will not cost exactly half as much as weekly service.
Each visit will take longer and require more labor and increase the wear and tear on equipment. Bi-weekly service is a different maintenance schedule, not simply the weekly service divided in half.
What is landscape maintenance?
Landscape maintenance can be defined as any service that helps keep your landscape looking its best. This includes things like mowing, trimming, and blowing.
What services should be performed weekly?
Mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, bed and weed monitoring, and basic property inspections are generally best-performed weekly, but even these can be season dependent.
Should lawn mowing always be weekly?
No. Mowing frequency should be based on how quickly the grass is growing. For a healthy, irrigated North Texas lawn, weekly mowing is usually appropriate during the active spring and summer growing season. Frequent mowing helps maintain the correct turf height and avoids removing too much of the grass blade at once.
When can mowing go to a bi-weekly schedule?
Mowing may be reduced to every other week or performed only as needed during cooler months, drought conditions, or winter dormancy when growth slows significantly. Newly established, damaged, or severely stressed turf should receive a customized approach.
A useful guideline is the “One-Third Rule.” This states that you should never remove more than approximately one-third of the grass blade in a single mowing. If the lawn grows too tall to follow that rule on a biweekly schedule, it should be mowed weekly. The best schedule changes with the grass, weather, and season.
